Mental health in schools

 Assignment 2: Mental health poster

In this case, I decided not to be subtle about it. I believe mental health is a sensitive topic for all the wrong reasons - there’s still too much stigma around it, too much ignorance regarding its impact on our daily lives and not enough recognition for the psychologists’ work for our wellbeing. With that said, I went for what and how I would like to promote this - in a straightforward way.

This poster was made on Canva, the default background color for any design is white, but I deliberately decided to leave it like that as I associate white with a number of positive things: calmness, peace of mind, health, and even, the chance to start anew. From my own experience, I know firsthand how useful it is to just “empty” your mind during stressful periods, anxiety attacks, or whatever event that triggers an extreme emotion. So, leaving your mind white, for me, is not the goal, but the first step to enhance our overall mental health - get rid of all the external noise and just focus on what matters.

Secondly, the caption. As I said before, I think mental health is not appreciated enough, which can lead to people suffering from mental issues to feel isolated or misunderstood, if not stigmatized by the people who surround them. So telling them that they matter, that their problems are not to be borne alone, is in my opinion the only right thing to do. In general terms, I stand by the saying “Sharing is caring”, so making everyone feel like their problems are equally important as everyone else’s and that no one should feel ostracized by admitting to not feeling well must be our objective of us all as a community.

The image at the center of it intends to encourage the audience to seek out the nearest help center / professional and to bring forth the notion that taking care of your mental health is also a form of self-love, a much needed one in these times
